Wyman Jewelers was founded in 1954 by its President and owner, Philip Minsky.

Beyond being a fine merchant, Mr. Minsky is highly qualified in several specialized areas of expertise. He earned his Graduate Gemologist diploma from the Gemological Institute of America in 1957, and in the same year earned the title of Certified Gemologist of the American Gem Society(AGS). He followed up that accomplishment in 1983 by earning the highest title awarded a member of AGS; Certified Gemologist Appraiser.

He has long been active in AGS, an elite society of retail jewelers dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of education and ethics in the jewelry industry. In 1984 he received the Society's prestigious honor, the Robert M. Shipley Award for outstanding service to the Society, for significant contribution to the science of gemology, or for exemplifying the high purposes, objectives, and ideals in the member's own community. Mr. Minsky served as President of AGS for the 1989-1991 term and served as a Trustee from 1992 to 1999.

He is known in New England for his insightful articles on gemology and jewelry. In 1995 Mr. Minsky was honored by the NATIONAL JEWELER publication as the number one independent jeweler in the United States.

At the Annual Conclave in 2003 Mr. Minsky was accorded the honor of being the 15th Emeritus recipient in the seventy year history of the American Gem Society.

In 2004, Mr. Minsky and his wife Francy retired, both thankfully in good health. He intends to keep abreast of future gemological developments and will attend all of the forthcoming AGS Annual Conclaves. They are both taking time to "smell the roses."
